Forever young

Hello there

I love the big floppy flowery hat on the envelope
Here's a card I made for a surprise 40th party for a friend who does a lot of work for our local community and is just a lovely lady. There was a 70's theme to the party, so a pair of flared stripey trousers was a must and some large flowers. The song 'forever young' came to my mind after seeing a card called 'Forever 40' when I was looking for inspiration.

I've got the words of the song printed off and put inside the card.

I used the Forever young Cricut cartridge to get the woman's image from too and the flowers. The font for the words on the front of the card and the 'Happy Birthday' on the inside of the card, come from the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge. The paper was a lucky find in my stash from K&Co.

And before you ask, yes, that hat was worn at the party. It had to be done.

Take care out there - peace and love to you sisters!

Glossy, shiny, glittery, blingy all rolled into one

Hello
This entry is for a card I've made for Chris's daughter who's going to be 15 in July. She 'ordered' (yes, you're right 'cheeky mare' :-) ) a huge shiny over the top card but this is my version of that which is much more calmed down but still with the essential bling, shine and shimmer. The inspiration this time was from Tiffany at http://sparkledmemories.blogspot.com/. Of course you can never make an exact replica and who'd want to really or you wouldn't have any creative input and besides, it depends on what stock you've got or can find.

The shoe box on the front was a find in a 'offcuts/misprints' type box of card I got from the Manchester craft fair in February (not sure of exact month but it was something like then). The shoes were cut at 3.5" from the Forever Young cartridge. The other cuts were 8.5x11 for glossy basecard, 8x5 for the pink glitter card (Kanban) and 8x5 for the pearlescent paper layer. The pink part of the shoes was 'glossy accent'ed as were the lids of the shoe boxes. The ribbon was from Hobbycraft as were the pink flowers 'bling bling'. The message is a peel-off by Anita's glitterations which is part of the Docraft line.

I made the envelope with Centura Pearl card and embossed a shape on the seal tip from a Crafter's Companion Ultimate Pro section, with the help of Crafter's Companion Spray and Slide. (Goodness me, the amount of products needed in the background is often way too many to mention without boring the pants off people). I also cut some glittery pink shoes to decorate the front as can be seen from the photo. Inside the card are two 2" shoes cut out of the pink pearlescent paper too.

I've been very clever with this post (well, I hope it works) as I've scheduled it not to appear until July 16th which is her birthday, just in the off-chance she has a nosey, as she mentioned the fact that I had a blog last week, so it's within her realm of knowledge :-)

Take care out there

Get well soon card

Don't you hate it when your computer starts dying, so you try to refresh it without having saved your work first! Hence this being my second time typing most of this. Grrrr (I've since realised that Blogger automatically saves a draft for you, so I needn't have bothered re-doing it as it was already waiting for me- double grr :-)  )

The exciting news is that today we went to see some cocker spaniel puppies just outside of Preston and we've decided that we'll have two black ones; one with a white chest patch will be called Alfie and the other will be Nero. We'll collect them next Saturday; we're all excited but especially Maggie.

Also this week Betty; Chris's mum has had her second hip replacement op but yesterday Chris took her home after only a couple of days at the hospital, so hopefully that's a good sign for a full recovery. She's been housebound for a year or more now, so she's due some good times. We went to see her on Thursday night and I took this card to her-

It's showing as quite a bit darker than it was but I still like it. Yet again I have to admit to copying the idea from Cardz tv with Mary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGkUyL6BA3w but changed the colours. She had a really clear, precise, effective way of describing how she made the card, so made it easier and more fun for me.

Here are the written instructions to help me when I need to make it again quickly.
1)The base is 41/4 x 51/2
2)The polka dot mat is 4 x 51/4
3) The plain band is 13/4 x 4
4) The patterned band is 11/4 x 4
5) All the flower pieces are cut in size 3inches and are from page 73 of the booklet with the Forever young cartridge. The green base is just using the button, the flowery section is used by pressing shift then the button. The polka dot flower layer is done by pressing the layer function then the flower button. The glitter card middle flower is done by using the layer function, the shift button and the flower button.

I've made another one since Betty's as it's so pretty and easy and it's best to have a 'get well soon' card handy as when someone isn't well, they need the sympathy there and then, not in a week's time.

Take care out there

my latest card

Since I'm trying to just photograph cards as I make them, then here goes as this photo shows the card I just finished yesterday. I don't know who it's for yet but it's intended for one of Maggie's friends, so whenever she tells me, the night before inevitably, that one of her friend's has a birthday, then I don't need to panic. All I have to do is reach into my 'bag of wonders' and pull out a lovely suitable card! Ta dah! It's not very personalised but I highly doubt the girls would appreciate much more effort anyway.

This card was made using my Forever Young cartridge. I started it off as I particularly wanted to practise the decorative frame shape and the card just developed from there. It's rather basic in design but I was really chuffed with the way the layers were cut out and how I've used the same 'colour ways' as I hear them mention on t.v and youtube so often.
The envelope made also used my Crafter's Companion Ultimate Pro and it's made from a pearlescent paper of the same colour as the main card. I used the U.P to ensure the gatefold lines were exactly right as well.
